in London a nucleus Civil Affairs Unit for Borneo comprising experienced administrative and technical officers who were in the service of the local Governments prior to enemy occupation and that these British staffs would be at the disposal of the American Force Commander. Following on this, General MacArthur stated in September, 1944, that the presence in Australia of British Officers, who would later participate in Civil Affairs activities in Borneo, would be welcome. In January, 1945, we were informed by telegram that the complete Borneo Unit was required to assemble in Australia without avoidable delay, and They have in the field.
